The Nordic Folkboat filled 50 years a while ago! It was born as a
result of a Scandinavian planning competition, and the results were
published in 1941. There were 59 participiants, and no first prize was
given. An swedish engineer, Tord Sunden, then was given the work to
combine the two second prize takers to a final design. Nowadays there
are perhaps 4000 folkboats sailing in Finland, Sweden, Denmark,
Germany, Britain and USA.
This a new boat
from Sandell & Mäntymäki, exactly like mine. The photo is
probably from the '60s.
As you can see, the
grounding capabilities of this boat are good... To be sure I test about
once a summer :) The long keel also makes it very nice to steer, it
keeps it's direction well.
