Åbo Akademi University celebrates its 50 years in Vaasa
Åbo Akademi University was founded in 1918 as one of the first social institutions in the independent country of Finland. Åbo Akademi University in Vaasa was founded in 1974, adding a second location to the university. Throughout 2024, we will be celebrating that Åbo Akademi in Vaasa has been a significant regional societal actor and a important partner in cooperation across the Kvarken region and internationally for 50 years.
Our activities have contributed to the understanding of crucial components in our democracy. We work with the human perspective on societal development within sectors such as the Finnish-Swedish school, health and social issues, technology, civic and media knowledge, digital development, and lifelong learning.
The jubilee year in Vaasa has the theme:
Together we create the future of education and science
The goal of the jubilee year is to involve the public, alumni, and collaborators in the celebration in various ways, as well as, of course, the students, staff, and emeriti. All of Åbo Akademi stands for diversity, openness, boldness, sustainability, and participation – this is worth celebrating!
