We are actively interacting with society, e.g. through cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Government of Åland so that our knowledge and expertise can have an impact and be used in marine management and decision making. Our staff has is also active in the public debate and has a broad contact network to society via different expert groups within organizations such as HELCOM and ICES.
We also have representatives in Finland’s Nature Panel (in finish) and Finland’s Steering Group for United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). We are also engaged in different outreach and exhibition projects, regional steering groups e.g. Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, the Archipelago Biosphere Reserve, Centrum Balticum Foundation as well as various school projects (in swedish).
