About the library

Åbo Akademi University Library is an academic library that primarily serves students and faculty at Åbo Akademi University (Turku and Vaasa) and Novia University of Applied Sciences (Turku).

Åbo Akademi University Library opened in 1919. Since its start, the library has had a status as a legal depository library, making the domestic publications collection almost complete. In additions to the legal deposits, proceeds from the Gösta Brander foundation greatly contribute to the library’s acquisitions.

In total, the collections comprise over two million printed books and journals, and access to tens of thousands licensed e-journals and hundreds of thousands of e-books. The collections can be viewed and accessed through the library’s search portal Alma.

The library, which is also open to the public, comprises four service units: three in Turku and one in Vaasa. Students and staff of Novia in Vaasa are served by Tritonia Academic Library. The largest specialist library on religion in the Nordic countries, and whose collections also are included in Alma, The Donner Institute Library, is closely connected to ÅAU Library.
