ÅAU receives employer award from the EU
Åbo Akademi University has received the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission. The award is given in recognition of the work carried out at Åbo Akademi University in order to develop the working conditions and recruitment processes for researchers.
“In our new strategy effective from the beginning of 2021, we establish our will to be a workplace of the future. Getting there is a long-term work in progress, and this award shows that we are on the right track,” says Stefan Willför, Vice-rector at Åbo Akademi University.
The award follows an application process that was launched in January 2019. During the process, researchers have participated in the assessment of the current state of working conditions and recruitment processes and in identifying processes that are in need of development.
In order to receive the award, organizations need to develop their activities in line with the principles in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. These consist of 40 fundamental principles concerning themes such as ethics, selection, social security, and development. The European Commission has established these principles to make it easier for organizations to create attractive research careers and favourable working conditions for researchers throughout Europe.
Åbo Akademi University now has an action plan consisting of 21 steps to make further improvements to the working conditions and recruitment processes for researchers before the end of 2022. New assessments and plans will be made every three years. Read more: https://www.abo.fi/en/about-abo-akademi-university/come-work-with-us/human-resources-strategy-for-researchers/
