The Åbo Akademi University Collegiate Body has appointed a new board for the period 2025–2027. The board is the university’s highest decision-making body. Of the board’s ten members, six represent the university, and four are external members.

As external board members Peter Essen, Gunvor Kronman, Anna Lindén and Dag Wallgren were re-elected. The external members are elected for one year at a time.

The professors of Åbo Akademi University are represented on the new board by Kimmo Grönlund, Professor of Political Science, and Lea Sistonen, Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology.

Dan Holm, Section Head, and Linnéa Henriksson, University Lecturer in Public Leadership, were elected to represent researchers, teachers, and other staff.

The student representatives are Jonne Kunnas, Chair of the Åbo Akademi Student Union Board, and Amanda Byskata, Vice Chair of the Student Union.

According to the Universities Act, the board decides on the university’s central goals for operations and finances.

– I am pleased that we have several re-elected members with us. The current Board has actively worked to develop Åbo Akademi University’s new strategy, and it is important to have continuity in the Board when the strategy is implemented. Another important challenge for the new Board will be to prepare and implement the university’s agreement with the Ministry of Education and Culture 2025–2028, says Ronald Österbacka, Chair of the University Collegiate Body.

The board will appoint its chair at its inaugural meeting in January.
