Åbo Akademi University initiates change negotiations
Rector Mikael Lindfelt has today informed the staff at Åbo Akademi University that change negotiations will begin 9 December 2024. Åbo Akademi University plans to carry out change negotiations due to financial and production reasons, as well as due to reorganisation of operations.
Åbo Akademi University has made significant deficits for several years, which according to the ÅAU Board is not sustainable in the long run. Having a balanced economy enables the operational goals Åbo Akademi University has for research, education, collaboration and a prosperous organisation.
To adjust its finances in the long term, Åbo Akademi University plans to reorganise its activities. The long-term savings in personnel costs should amount to at least EUR 3 million on an annual basis, based on the Board’s preliminary calculations.
According to the employer’s preliminary assessment 53 people may be at risk of dismissal. An estimated 145 people can be relocated or retrained, as an alternative to dismissal.
The planned reorganization and possible terminations will not affect teaching and research staff at the faculties, nor the employees of Vasa Teacher Training School. Possible layoffs may apply to the entire staff, except for the employees of the Vasa Teacher Training School and fixed-term staff.
The change negotiations will start on 9 December 2024 and are tentatively scheduled to last until the end of January 2025.
Decisions on possible reorganisation and reduction of the number of full-time equivalents are made by the Board after change negotiations have been held with the personnel.
