Jamie Hyneman to hold public lecture at Åbo Akademi University

Jamie Hyneman, known as one of the hosts of the popular TV series MythBusters (2002–2016), will visit Åbo Akademi University for a public lecture on 1 April 2025. Hyneman is an American special effects expert, inventor, and entrepreneur with a long career in technology, engineering, and product development.

Since 2021, Hyneman has been a Professor of Practice at LUT University. In this role, he is involved in various research collaborations and development initiatives in technology, business development, and environmental issues.

Hyneman will visit Turku to familiarize himself with the sustainability research conducted at Åbo Akademi University, including the research profiles The Sea and Technologies for a Sustainable Future, as well as the Center for Sustainable Ocean Science (SOS) and the Green Transition Lab, a collaboration between Meyer Turku and Åbo Akademi University.

In his lecture, Hyneman will discuss creative problem-solving and the Climate Innovation Coalition (CIC) – an initiative he co-founded to promote sustainable development through innovation and collaboration. CIC aims to bring together researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs to find concrete solutions to climate-related challenges.

Hyneman will also talk about the role of academia in contributing to a more sustainable future. He will highlight how students and researchers can leverage their expertise and creativity to drive real change through research, education, and innovative solutions.

The lecture will be held at Åbo Akademi University, Aurum building (Henrikinkatu 2), lecture hall Argentum, on 1 April 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00. The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will be given in English and will not be livestreamed.
