As of fall 2023, the Open University at Åbo Akademi University offers courses in PEACE (Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research).
The PEACE program is a master’s program that started at Åbo Akademi University in 2012. This program attracts people from all over the world and is intended to those who want to make a positive impact on society. The program has been developed considering the challenges of today’s society in mind, and participants in these courses gain a deeper understanding of the role that human behaviour plays in changing the society. The courses also address how peace, mediation and conflict research are crucial to the growth of society and to creating a better quality of life for all.
The Open University now offers some of the PEACE courses and this means that the courses are open for anyone to participate, without prior knowledge or being enrolled as a degree student. The first Open University course Peace Education has already taken place during the fall. In the course, participants have developed their own ability to build peace and resolve conflicts peacefully. The second course Gender Equality, Media, and Peace will start in January 2024. In this course, participants will gain insight into the factors that lead to gender discrimination, female subordination and gender-based violence at different levels of societies and cultures. They will also learn how media plays a crucial role in the transformation of society.
In the future, we hope to be able to offer more PEACE courses. If you are interested in trying out a course in the subject, you can find out more and register via the Open University website.
