Prizes awarded at the Opening of the Academic Year 2023–2024 at Åbo Akademi University
Prizes and scholarships from the Ann-Mari Finnilä Fund and the Harry Elving Fund were awarded in connection with the inauguration of the academic year at Åbo Akademi University in Vaasa (6 September 2023):
Vaasa
Prize for developing a positive work environment (Harry Elving Fund)
The prize for developing a positive work environment is awarded to Head of Continuing Education and Deputy Director Camilla Forsberg at the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL). The award is 3 000 euros.
Supervisor of the year (Harry Elving Fund)
The Supervisor of the year is awarded to University Teacher Camilla Svens-Liavåg, based on student feedback. The prize is 2 500 euros.
Ann-Mari Finnilä’s prize for systematically developed cooperation with the labour market and business community
The prize for systematically developed cooperation with the labour market and business community is awarded to Operations Manager Yvonne Backholm-Nyberg at Experience Lab. The prize is 5 000 euros.
Ann-Mari Finnilä Prize for international students (from master’s degree to employee)
The prize for international students (from master´s degree to employee) is awarded to University Lecturer Farida Anwar. The prize is 5 000 euros.
Furthermore, Högskolestiftelsen i Österbotten awards 14 students. This year the 2000 euro student scholarship was given to Felicia Gustafsson and Frida Warg. The 500 euro student scholarship was awarded to Sofie Westerlund, Pinja Levonen, Johanna Selenius, Sara Lågland, Molly Feiring, Moa Kakkuri, Peggy Johansson, Anna Carlson, Cilla Dalkvist, Sofia Klåvus, Vanessa Björklund and Sara Storbäck..

Supervisor of the year (Harry Elving Fund)
This year the Supervisor of the year award was awarded to two supervisors, based on student feedback. The prize is 2 500 euros.
In Turku the prize was awarded to University Teacher Otto Salo.
Teacher of the year (Harry Elving Fund)
The prize for Teacher of the year was awarded to Associate Professor Diana Toivola. The prize is 6 000 euros.
Pedagogical visionary and developer of the year (Harry Elving Fund)
The prize for this year’s pedagogical visionary and developer was awarded to Professor Anna-Greta Nyström. The prize is 6 000 euros.
Recognition for notable popularisation of new research / work to raise awareness of Åbo Akademi University in society (Harry Elving Fund)
This year Amanuensis Tony Cederberg was recognized for noticeably having popularized new research and worked to raise awareness of Åbo Akademi University in society. The prize is 3 000 euros.
Prizes for researchers (Harry Elving Fund)
This year the prize was awarded to two researchers. The award is 5 000 euros.
PhD Robert Lassfolk for his doctoral thesis: “Acyl group migration in carbohydrates: Migration within the saccharide unit and across the glycosidic linkage”.
PhD Salla Aldrin Salskov for her doctoral thesis:” Struggling with the personal: On epistemic habits in queer and feminist theory”.
Dissertation Supervisor of the Year Award (Harry Elving Fund)
The Dissertation Supervisor of the Year is University Lecturer Camilla Kronqvist. She was the main supervisor of PhD Salla Aldrin Salskov. The award is 2 000 euros.
