The 52nd International NORDTEK Conference will be organised in Turku in June
The conference will be organised 11-13 June 2024. The theme of the Conference is “Artificial intelligence in engineering”, and registration to the conference is already open.
NORDTEK is a network of 30 technical universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The annual NORDTEK meetings bring together students, teachers, researchers, and administrators from these universities.
This year’s conference is organised in Turku, Finland, jointly by the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University. Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku jointly offer engineering degree programs in a large number of disciplines, from biotechnology to mechanical and materials engineering to process and systems engineering. AI is impacting both teaching and research in all these areas.
The theme of the NORDTEK 2024 conference is Artificial intelligence in engineering.
Presentations by leading AI researchers and practitioners explore the current technological landscape of AI and its impact on the field of engineering; on the engineering profession, on education, and on new technological opportunities, and also on the limitations and threats of AI.
“The theme of the conference is particularly fitting for the University of Turku since AI is a significant research emphasis for us. We have a long and successful track record of research on NLP and large language models, and a vibrant research community working on all aspects of AI, from core learning algorithms to applications. It is evident that powerful AIs will impact future engineering, perhaps drastically and likely in unpredictable ways. The NORDTEK conference is really topical: the AI experts from the NORDTEK network and beyond whose talks comprise the main program will help us understand what we can expect from the future — and how to prepare for it,”says Jaakko Järvi, dean of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku.
“We see Nordic and Baltic collaboration in today’s world as increasingly important. NORDTEK is one of the oldest Nordic/Baltic networks in the field of engineering, and we are proud to co-host the 2024 conference at Åbo Akademi University, at which Nordic collaboration is of special strategic importance,” says Patrik Henelius, dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at ÅAU.
In addition to the main conference on 12 June, the programme includes focus meetings and workshops on 13 June.
