The BioDemo project contributes to developing bio and circular economy business operations on an industrial scale in the Turku region. The objective is to aid the companies in developing value chains for utilising material streams from bio and circular economies. These value chains cover biomass harvesting, acquiring, refining, and processing raw materials into final products. The project aims to demonstrate the functionality of two to three bio and circular economy value chains on a pilot scale. Raw materials compatible with the bio and circular economy can be used, for example, as raw materials in the textile and cosmetics industries.

The goal is to demonstrate the functionality of selected circular economy value chains based on local raw materials in the Turku region, such as straw, common reed, and recycled textile fibres. One aim is to identify the potential of end products. The project also collects information on the availability of bio-based raw materials in the Turku region, such as straw and common reed, and how the availability meets the industrial raw material needs. Thus, the companies gain valuable information and insights for further developing and growing bio and circular economy businesses.

The project strengthens the innovation activities and, in the long term, supports the development of a new bio- and circular economy industry in the Turku area.

BioDemo is a joint project with the following partners: Business Turku (coordinator), Turku University of Applied Sciences, and Åbo Akademi. Åbo Akademi is responsible for developing value-added, sustainable products with a high processing degree from selected bio and circular economy-based raw materials.
