    The ECOTIP

“Arctic biodiversity change and its consequences: Assessing, monitoring and predicting the effects of ecosystem tipping cascades on marine ecosystem services and dependent human systems” project will investigate ecosystem tipping points and their cascading effects in the Arctic.

The project was launched on 1 June 2020 and is funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement no. 869383.

ECOTIP brings together a multidisciplinary group of scientists from more than 10 countries to advance understanding of the impacts of climate change on Arctic biodiversity and the cascading effects that biodiversity change can have on marine ecosystems, the climate services they provide, and the human communities that depend on them. The four-year project is coordinated by the Technical University of Denmark’s National Institute of Aquatic Resources.

Within the project our focus at ÅAU and Environmental and Marine Biology is to investigate the impact of multiple stressors on benthic biodiversity and functioning, particularly changes linked to carbon transfer to the seafloor and trophic transfer. We also lead work package two (WP2) on “Past and future vulnerability of Arctic marine ecosystems to multiple stressors”.
