Organisation and Management

Organisation and Management

Main subject – Organisation and Management

Knowledge, competence and ideas are central resources in today’s companies and organisations. For this reason, ability to organise and lead human resources in a systematic manner is important. With Organisation and Management as your major subject, you will learn about strategy, leadership, decision-making, knowledge-intensive organisations, organisation cultures and networks. You will study these areas at individual, organisational and social levels from different perspectives, for example, from an ethical viewpoint or in relation to change processes. Studies in Organisation and Management will teach you to lead teams and talents in knowledge-intensive work, to understand complex organisations as a whole, and to develop creative solutions in strategic work.

Major subject students in Organisation and Management can already at an early stage select their study profile with specialisation in leadership, consultant and analyst tasks, or HR management and development. Minor subjects and elective studies will help you to create a unique professional profile for yourself. Organisation and Management is a popular minor subject, not only among students of business and economics but also for students majoring in other subjects. The subject provides you with a broad understanding of how people work in organisations and companies.

The research-group in organization and management study organizations and organizing in critical, creative and innovative ways. We work with classical as well as modern organization theories but rather than taking an interest in the being of organizations, our main focus is on organizational becoming; on organizing, and on how organizational phenomena emerge over time.  Process theories and post human perspectives are thus central to many of us.

Our current projects include studies of empirical phenomena such as entrepreneurship, digitalization, game worlds, creativity & AI, children and animals in companies and organizing, and gender/diversity/inequality within Finish Academia.

In our research we aim at developing alternative perspectives and methods in order to take responsibility for whom and what we study. In other words, we strive at studying actors and activities that traditionally have been understudied or by-passed within organization theory and business studies. We work empirically, often inspired by ethnography, but also with other qualitative research methods, with the purpose of developing organization theory and contribute to theoretical conversations in business studies more generally, as well as in social science and the humanities at large.
