On this page you find a guide for applying to Åbo Akademi University. The guide is primarily geared towards applicants to the bachelor’s degree programmes at Åbo Akademi University, but also contains useful advice for applicants to other programmes.

Do note that all bachelor’s degree programmes at ÅAU are taught in Swedish and require you to provide documentation of sufficient knowledge in Swedish in order to be admitted. If you are interested in studying in English, Åbo Akademi University offer 9 international master’s degree programmes taught in English, as well as selection of double degree programmes.
1. Familiarize yourself with the programmes offered
- During the fall semester 2024 we publish information about our programmes and the admission 2025.
- You can check out the programmes offered at studyinfo.fi and log in to My Studyinfo already before the admissions round starts.
- With your school, participate in our events and get to know the programmes offered.
- Reach out if you have any questions!
2. General information about applying
- 11-25.3.2025 – apply to the bachelor’s degree programmes and the master’s programmes taught in Swedish.
- You apply via the second joint application in spring at studyinfo.fi, the deadline for applying is 25.3.2025 at 15.00 (Helsinki time).
- In the second joint application you can apply to up to 6 programmes, that you need to rank in order of which programme you would prefer to be admitted to.
- Ranking the programmes means that if you are admitted you are offered one study place, at the programme you ranked the highest and qualified for.
- If you apply through överflyttarantagningen, the application is open 2-16.5.2025.
- Are you applying for our international master’s programmes? The application to the international masters programmes are part of the first joint application in spring, and you can apply 8-22.1.2025. In first joint application round in spring you do not need to rank the programmes you apply to.
3. Fill out the application form
- You apply via an electronic form at Studyinfo.fi.
- Fill in the information requested in the application form.
- Fill out the application form carefully!
- It is very important that the e-mail address you use for your application is one that you will have access to until the start of the studies in September. Important information from Studyinfo.fi and Åbo Akademi University is sent to your email, check that the email address you use can receive messages and that your inbox is not full.
- Check that you are eligible to apply to the programmes that you are applying to. In the second joint application you can apply both to bachelor’s degree programmes and master’s degree programmes, do note that a master’s degree programme requires you to have a previous bachelor’s degree.
- Fields marked with a star (*) in the application form is mandatory to fill in.
- You cannot save your application as a draft; you need to submit the application for it to be saved.
- During the application period you can edit your application via the link you received in the confirmation email when you submitted your application.
- Even if you cannot log in to My Studyinfo (i.e., if you are an international applicant or do not have Finnish banking codes or mobile certificate) you can still fill out the application form. You will get a confirmation email when submitting your application, in the email you find a link to view and edit your application.
- If you cannot fill out the electronic application form, be in contact with the student service desk!
4. Confirmation that your application has been received
- After you have submitted your application, you get an email confirmation to the email address you have used in your application.
- With the confirmation email, you get a link to Studyinfo.fi. During the application period, you can use this link to make changes to your application. Remember to click the submit button again when done, in order to save your application and the changes you have made.
- After the application deadline, you cannot longer change your application, the ranking of the programmes or remove programmes from your application.
5. Upload enclosures
- You might get asked to upload certificates and enclosures to your application, in order to confirm your previous studies or your language skills
- The application form will ask for the necessary enclosures when you fill it out.
- Read instructions and deadlines for uploading your enclosures.
6. Participate in entrance exams
- Information about the dates for the entrance examens kan be found on our web page (in Swedish) about entrance exams and on the programmes own information pages.
- Åbo Akademi University do not send a summon to the entrance exams, it is your responsibility to participate.
- You do not have to participate in the entrance exam if you get admitted on the basis of your grades in the Finnish matriculation examination and get the admissions decision before the exam.
- If you have a disability, you can apply for individual arrangements for the entrance examination. Remember to apply with time to spare! Read more about individual arrangements.
7. Admission results
- The admission result is published in studyinfo.fi when they are ready. You can see your results yourself by logging in to My Studyinfo.
- You get a text message when your results are published and you have been admitted to a programme. In order to get a text message, you need to have provided a phone number in your application and allowed the Studyinfo.fi system to send you text messages.

- If you are conditionally admitted, that means that we at the time when the admissions results were published, Åbo Akademi University had not yet received your final degree certificate. You need to submit your degree certificate as soon as possible. Read more about enclosures.
- What are the alternatives for you if you did not get admitted? The open university can be an alternative.
8. Confirm your study place
- When your application result are finished you can accept the offered study place.
- You can only accept one study place at the university level each semester, so if you have already accepted a study place via another application round (such as a separate application or another joint application) you will not be able to accept the place offered in the second joint application.
- You need to confirm your study place by 10.7.2025 at 15.00 Helsinki time.
- You confirm your study place in MyStudyinfo.
- If you get admitted from the waiting list after all application results have been published, you will get a personal deadline for confirming your study place, 7 days after you get the admissions decision from studyinfo.fi. Remember to check your email regularly if you are waiting for an admissions decision!
- If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please be in contact with the student service desk with time to spare before the deadline. You can use the paper form for accepting a study place that you will receive from the Finnish National Agency for Education in connection with the result letter (you will receive it in PDF format). The result letter will be sent to the e-mail address you provided in your application. Send a scanned copy of the completed and signed study place acceptance form to studinfo@abo.fi.
9. Enroll for the academic year
- After you have accepted your study place, you need to enroll as present or absent for the academic year. Your first year of study, you enroll via studyinfo.fi.
- When you enroll as present, you pay the mandatory student union fee
- You cannot enroll as absent your first year of study without lawful reasons. Read more on our page about annual enrollment.
- If you have been conditionally admitted, you can enroll as present first when the condition is fulfilled, ie. when you have submitted the required documents.
- If you are still queueing for another study place, you cannot enroll yet. Enrollment is possible first when you have accepted a study place bindingly.
- Deadline for annual enrollment is 29 August 2025 at 15.00 (Helsinki time)
- If you cannot enroll via studyinfo.fi, you can enroll in person. Contact the student service desk for further instructions. When enrolling in person you need a photo ID and a receipt for your student union membership fee. You get the payment details for the student union membership fee from the student service desk.
10. Participate in the student orientation week
- At the start of the academic year, all faculties arrange a study orientation week for newly admitted students.
- During the study orientation week, you get information about your studies, your campus city and different services on campus. You also meet everyone else that starts their studies at the same time as you. You get to meet your tutors, study advisors, teachers and familiarize yourself with your programme.
- You do not need to plan your studies or choose courses before the study orientation week, but you can start using your ÅAU user account if you want to. New students cannot start using their user account before the first week in August. You also need to be enrolled in order to start using your user account.
