Enclosures

On this page, you find information about deadlines and instructions for submitting enclosures to your application. Which enclosures you need to submit depends on which programme you are applying for and what you have previously studied. The enclosures are needed to prove your eligibility to get admitted and prove that you fulfill the language requirements. In the application form you find both deadlines for submitting enclosures and which enclosures you need to submit.

You submit the attachments by uploading them to the application form at studyinfo.fi

How do I submit my enclosures?

  • Scan your original document, make sure that you scan all parts of your document and that the document is clear and readable.
  • Upload your enclosure in PDF file format.
  • An attachment can be max. 1GB.
  • The attachments need to be in Swedish, Finnish or English. If your attachment is in another language, you must also upload a translation of the document. The translation must be in Swedish, Finnish or English.
  • Collect all parts of one document (for example a degree certificate) in the same file.
  • Name your file according to this: documentname_lastname_firstname. For example degreecertificate_yourlastname_yourfirstname.
  • Upload your document to the application form before deadline.
  • Keep an eye on your e-mail in case we ask you to supplement your enclosures. Remember to also check your e-mails spam filter.
  • If we ask you to supplement your enclosures after the deadline for uploading them to you application, send your enclosures to us at studinfo@abo.fi.
  • Foreign degree certificates should be certified on request.
  • Do not upload documents that are not relevant to your application.

Upload enclosures directly to your application form at studyinfo.fi. You need to upload your enclosures by the deadline stated in your application. Applicants that have the right to supplement their enclosures after deadline should  upload them to the studyinfo.fi portal or send them to us at studinfo@abo.fi or by mail:

Please note that Åbo Akademi University do not return any documents to the applicants. Because of this, do not send original degree certificates with your application.

Applications received after the deadline and incomplete applications are not considered in accordance to the law (förvaltningslagen 434/2003)

 

  • Check which enclosures are needed to fulfill the language requirements on our page about Swedish language requirements or on our page about English language requirements.
  • In the application form you find the deadlines for when you need to submit your language enclosures.
  • The first joint application:
    • 29.1.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures certifying that you fulfill the language requirements.
  • The second joint application:
    • 1.4.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures certifying that you fulfill the language requirements.
    • Exceptions:
      • If you are taking Åbo Akademi University’s Swedish language test 2025 to prove your language skills. We get your results directly from the examiners.
      • If you are proving your language skills with the Finnish matriculation examination and are graduating in spring 2025. For admission based on grades your matriculation examination results need to be available electronically by 13.5.2025. For admission based on entrance exams your matriculation examination results need to be available electronically by 13.6.2025.

  • 1.4.2025 at 15.00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you need to submitted enclosures certifying your language skills and your degree certificate if you already have graduated.
    • If you completed your Finnish matriculation examination in 1990 or earlier, it is not available electronically, so you will need to upload your degree certificate to your application.
    • If you completed your vocational exam in 2017 or earlier, you may need to upload your degree certificate to your application. Check in the application form or minstudieinfo.fi if what applies to you.
    • You can check for yourself if your degree is available electronically by logging into mystudyinfo.fi and selecting the My completed studies option.
  • If you graduate in spring 2025:
    • 13.5.2025 – is when your Finnish matriculation examination needs to be available electronically for you to be able to be admitted based on grades.
    • 13.6.2025 – is when your degree from your upper secondary education needs to be available electronically for you to be able to be admitted based on entrance exams. You can also submit your degree certificate to studinfo@abo.fi.

Exceptions:

  • Enclosures that are part of the DIA-application (Diplomingenjörsantagningen) should be sent to Aalto
  • Enclosures that concern an application to the bachelor level in Economics and Business Administration (ansökningsmålet i ekonomi) should be sent to the University of Eastern Finland (Östra Finlands Universitet)

  • The application form lists all the enclosures you need to submit for your application, but generally at least the following attachments are required:
    • Degree certificate from your bachelor’s degree
    • Transcript of records
    • Language certificate
    • Program specific enclosures
  • All attachments are uploaded to your application in studieinfo.fi.
  • 1.4.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you should have submitted a language certificate and a degree certificate and transcript of records from your bachelor’s degree if you already have graduated. Remember to upload any program specific enclosures.
  • 30.5.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading transcript of records over studies you have completed after the end of the application period and that you want considered for your admission. Courses completed after this deadline is not considered for your admission for purposes other than eligibility (i.e., the requirement of a completed degree).
  • 31.7.2025 – If you are conditionally admitted, your degree must be issued by this date. Submit your degree certificate in its entirety to studinfo@abo.fi as soon as you receive it.

  • The application form lists all the enclosures you need to submit for your application, but generally at least the following attachments are required:
  • All attachments are uploaded to your application in studyinfo.fi.
  • 29.1.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you should have submitted a language certificate and a degree certificate and transcript of records from your bachelor’s degree if you already have graduated. Remember to upload any program specific enclosures.
  • 31.7.2025 – If you are conditionally admitted, your degree must be issued by this date. Submit your degree certificate in its entirety to studinfo@abo.fi as soon as you receive it.
  • We do not accept scans of photocopies unless photocopies have been certified by the awarding institution.

Requirements for the educational documents:

  • Degree Certificate – A degree certificate is a document issued by an institution to a student who has successfully completed all studies included in the degree. The student has graduated. The degree certificate should include the name of the institution awarding the degree, the date of issue, and the name of the person to whom the degree certificate has been issued and which title/degree the person has been awarded.
    Note that if you are applying with a for the programme relevant master’s degree you will always need to also enclose your bachelor’s degree certificate.
  • Temporary (Provisional) Degree Certificate – You may apply with a a temporary (provisional) degree certificate* as a replacement for the actual degree certificate e.g. in case the actual degree certificate cannot be given to the student immediately after the studies have been completed due to technical or administrative reasons. A temporary degree certificate is a document issued by an institution to a student who has been awarded or conferred an academic degree. The temporary degree certificate must include:
    • the name of the institution awarding the degree
    • the date of award/conferral of the degree
    • the name of the person to whom the temporary degree certificate has been issued
    • which academic title/degree the person has been awardedIt is important to note that a document stating only that the student has completed all the courses is not sufficient as a temporary degree certificate.
    • *A temporary (provisional) degree certificate is accepted if it was issued no more than five years earlier. The five-year validity period begins from the date on which the degree was conferred and must not expire prior to the application deadline. The graduation date/date of award stated on the certificate needs to be no later than 31th July the same year as offered admission.
  • Transcript of records – The official transcript of records should include the following information:
    • full titles of the units that the student has completed for the degree
    • completion times of study units (or at the very least the overall study time at the institution)
    • grades obtained
    • credits awarded
    • information on the grading scale used at the institution at the time of study
    • If you have not yet graduated: The transcript of records must include the name of the degree that will be awarded to you when you graduate (Bachelor of, Master of, etc.)
  • Translations – If your educational documents have not been issued in English, Finnish or Swedish, you must also submit official translations into one of these languages. You must also submit your official educational documents in the original language. An official translation must be one of the following:
    • issued by the awarding institution
    • an officially certified copy of a translation issued by the awarding institution
    • translated by an official translator
    • an officially certified copy of a translation made by an official translator
      Each page of an official translation must bear the translator’s stamp and/or signature. Official translations must be exact translations of the original documents. Translations done by the applicant him- or herself are not accepted.

  • The application form lists all the enclosures you need to submit for your application, but generally at least the following attachments are required:
    • Transcript of records over the studies necessary for admission
    • Language certificate
  • 1.4.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you should have submitted a language certificate and your transcript of records.
  • 30.5.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading your over transcript of records over the studies you have finished after the end of the application period and want considered in your application.
  • VAKAVA –  if you are applying for the pedagogical subjects within the VAKAVA application, enclosures must be submitted by 2.5.2025 at 15:00.

  • The application form lists all the enclosures you need to submit for your application, but generally at least the following attachments are required:
    • Certificate of study from your current study place
    • Transcript of records from your current study place
    • Language certificate
    • Other enclosures you want considered
  • 23.5.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you should have submitted a language certificate, certificate of study and your transcript of records.

  • The application form lists all the enclosures you need to submit for your application, but generally at least the following attachments are required:
    • Degree certificate from your upper secondary school
    • Language certificate
  • 1.4.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) is the deadline for uploading enclosures to your application. Then you need to submitted enclosures certifying your language skills and your degree certificate if you already have graduated. If you are graduating from upper secondary school during the spring of 2025, you need to submit a provisional degree certificate in order to be conditional admitted.
  • 10.7.2025 at 15:00 (Helsinki time) – this is the deadline for you who graduates during spring 2025 and have been conditionally admitted. Submit your final degree certificate to studinfo@abo.fi before deadline, you can submit your degree certificate as soon as you get it.
