Applicants to the Master’s degree programmes taught in English must always prove their knowledge of the English language and fulfill the general academic requirements.
Applicants to the International Master’s Programmes taught in English must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field that is equivalent to a Finnish university Bachelor’s degree (kandidatexamen). If the applicant is formally eligible for studies, the degree certificates and transcripts of records are always assessed individually by the academic board of the programme in order to determine whether the profile of the previous studies matches the academic requirements of the sought programme. The general eligibility for studies and requirements for this programme follows Åbo Akademi University’s regulation for admission to the master’s programmes.
Programme specific admission requirements
A completed university level Bachelor’s degree with or in addition to the degree 30 ECTS in business and economics, information systems or information studies or other relevant studies.
Student admission to the Master’s Programme in Governance of Digitalization is a two-step process. The maximum number of points is 75, and no applicant may be admitted with total score less than 50 points. The applicants can score maximum 60 and 15 points in Stage 1 and 2, respectively. Admissions are based on the combined score from the two assessment stages.
Stage 1.
All eligible applicants will be assessed on the basis of their application documents and in accordance with the criteria below:
- Applicability of previous studies to the master’s programme: 0-25 points. Applicants who score 0-14 will not continue to Stage 2.
- Academic performance in completed studies required for the programme: 0-25 points. Applicants who score 0-14 will not continue to Stage 2.
- Motivation letter: 0-10 points. Applicants who score 0-4 will not continue to Stage 2.
Academic performance is assessed based on: (i) the overall undergraduate GPA, and (ii) the grade received for the Bachelor’s Thesis, final project, or equivalent, if available. If the applicant has not yet completed a thesis, a preliminary research plan will be considered in the evaluation. In the motivation letter, applicants should discuss their reasons for applying to the programme, their expectations for the programme, and how their previous studies and any relevant professional experience align with the programme’s content.
In the first assessment stage, applicants will be ranked based on their score. Of these, no more than the best 50 will be selected for the next stage.
Stage 2.
Online video interview, which will be conducted in English, that consists of a certain number of predetermined questions. The applicants are evaluated based on motivation, knowledge and skills in the subject areas of the program, preparedness for studies, and language skills. Admission to the programme requires participation in the interview, and worth 0-15 points.
