The decision on admission is made by the Faculty Dean at each faculty. The admission office at Education Services will notify all applicants of the results by the beginning of April.
Please note that the verification process and assessment of programme specific requirements takes approximately 2,5 months, due to the large number of applicants it is not always possible for us to answer individual e-mails concerning the progress of the process, so we kindly ask for patience.

Admitted students will receive a letter of admission including the decision on the granted scholarship by email. Applicants can request a printed letter of admission when necessary. Note though that, the Finnish Immigration Service accepts the electronically issued letter of admission for the residence permit application.

Applicants who have not been admitted will receive a notification by e-mail. The reason for denied admission is stated in this notification. Applicants may email admission@abo.fi for clarification on denied admission. Applicants may also ask for correction to the decision if they feel that the application has been incorrectly assessed (please see below).

Applicants on the waiting list will receive a notification by email. Applicants with access to MyStudyinfo can there follow the progress of his/her application; other applicants can e-mail admission@abo.fi.

Numerus Clausus

A system of Numerus Clausus (restricted entry) is used. This means that there is a limited number of places available in the programmes and therefore not all eligible applicants are admitted, even though the formal requirements are fulfilled, if there are more applicants than what can be admitted. The various selection procedures and criteria are listed in the programme specific information.

Confirmation of acceptance

Those who have been offered admission must accept the offer by 11 July 2024 at 3:00pm (Helsinki time). Please see here, for local time in Finland.

If an admitted applicant fails to confirm his/her acceptance by the given deadline, he/she will lose the right to enroll at Åbo Akademi University.

Request for correction

If an applicant feels that the application has been incorrectly assessed, he/she should contact Education Services immediately after receiving the decision.

Eligible applicants who have been denied admission have the right to ask for a correction in writing within 14 days of the publication of the results (that is the date when the result has been posted to the applicant). The request for correction to the decision on admission should be emailed to admission@abo.fi in a separate pdf. This document should include the applicant’s full name, email address, the programme he/she has applied to and the reason why his/her application should be re-evaluated.
